Your First Quilt

My first quilt was several dozens and years ago. But I still remember how proud I was of that first blanket. My fast steps on how to create a quilt are summarized below. This makes creating your initial quilt easy. See my tips below.

Choose and make your fabric ready

After you have chosen the size and pattern of the quilt you wish to create, you have to pick the design and colors for the material for the quilt. And yes, making a decision on whom you should create the blanket for, assists in picking the theme, colors, and design as well as a new pattern to try.

Get the material ready by washing it before you begin. In case they are tiny pieces, I would only wash them by hand using a mild cleanser in water that is warm in your kitchen or the restroom. The next thing is to allow them to dry over a chair back or some metal fence. Huge pieces you could clean in them in the machine for washing and let them dry in a dryer. After that, press the sections of material and that is all you need to start cutting.

Slice the design wall pieces

Divide the pieces in accordance to your pattern; triangles, squares, or any pattern that the design dictates. Other patterns you may want to slice sections for the squares and make the squares later on.

After you are through with the blocks and noticed how huge they are, you may slice the sections for the edges or sashing that matches just about every block.

Organize the blocks on the design partition or ground in the manner you prefer or in regards to the pattern. This is because if the size of the squares adjusts as you continue sewing, the edge strips will not be the wrong size, either too big or small, and so misused material or not adequate.

After you have divided the sections, you may lay them out on the design wall, or just utilize them on the table or floor the same way I do.

Stitch the sections, sheet top together

After you have organized the parts in the manner you like, you are all set to begin stitching them together. Continue following the outline and then second-check, later on, to ensure you stitched them together properly. Go on sewing the blanket top together. Attach lumps first and then lines together as required.

Organize backing and batting

Since your blanket top is completed, slice the support parts and batting to the size that you require, which would be around one inch or more larger on all the four sides as compared to your blanket top. In case you have a huge blanket top, and you require to cut the backing, do it right now.

Sheet and drizzle or fix to the quilting mount

quilting on the machine

In case you plan to quilt by machine or do it by hand in a loop or slighter structure than the quilt size, you are all set to coat the three sheets, your blanket top, hitting, and then supporting. Coat them in the manner they will be when your quilt is completed.

After that, create large, fast stitches using a needle and yarn around each four to bulk inches of the quilt. The reason is to prevent the sheets from moving while you are creating the last stitch which will grip the sheets together.

In case you are doing it by machine, all you need is to attach the sheets using pins, or security pins as this may be enough, based on the quilt size. You may not require moistening the layers using huge hand darns. I only used pins to support the three sheets together. Therefore, it is all up to you what you choose to do.
